Wheel In The Sky

The Wheel

Decades ago, the classic rock band Journey sang, “Wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'…” Today that song might aptly describe the new attraction that's dominating the skyline in East Tennessee-Pigeon Forge, to be precise.

The new Great Smoky Mountain Wheel, which is part of the revitalized development known as The Island, stands 200 feet tall-a towering Ferris Wheel that gives riders panoramic bird's-eye views of the Great Smoky Mountains.

The wheel carries passengers inside 42 different climate-controlled gondolas, which make for comfortable viewing year 'round. Each gondola can carry as many as six passengers. Rides last 10 to 12 minutes and offers stunning views of the national park and other local attractions.

The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel is the first attraction at The Island, which will ultimately feature dozens of shops, attractions and restaurants, all located within a couple of blocks of Belz Factory Outlet World in Pigeon Forge.
