Whitewater rafting in the Smoky Mountains

The Smoky Mountains is one of the most popular places to visit for family vacations! Bring your family to the Smoky Mountains to explore all that the area has to offer. Not only are there gorgeous sights, but there are a number of activities in and around Pigeon Forge that are both family friendly and fun! We've put together a list of what to do in Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountains on your family vacation:

1. Go on a Rafting Adventure

There is nothing quite like the thrill you'll get when you go white water rafting in the Smoky Mountains! Not only will you get a rush of excitement, but you'll be able to see the mountains like never before. One of the best places to go rafting in the Smoky Mountains is Smoky Mountain Outdoors, which is just a quick drive from Pigeon Forge. Smoky Mountain Outdoors offers a variety of rafting trips, but the best trip for families is the Lower River Rafting trip. This 5.5-mile trip on the lower Pigeon River is a scenic journey that is great for kids. If you want a more thrilling adventure, try the Upper River Rafting trip. This 6.5-mile trip on the upper Pigeon River takes you down class 3 and 4 rapids and offers big waves and big drops. No matter which trip you choose, you're guaranteed to have a great time!

2. See a Show

Pigeon Forge is known for its variety of family-friendly shows! One of the best shows to see in Pigeon Forge is the Country Tonite show. Country Tonite Theatre puts on an incredible performance that people of all ages enjoy. The show has repeatedly been voted the “Best Show in the Smokies,” and once you see it, it's not hard to understand why. Don't let the name fool you - you don't have to be a fan of country music to be a fan of this show! In addition to your favorite country classics, hot country hits and country comedy, there is also amazing choreography, special lighting effects, powerful gospel and American patriotism. It's also the only show in the Smoky Mountains that has youth performers, so the kids will love it!

3. Go Camping

Another great thing to do in the Smoky Mountains is go camping! Camping is a great opportunity to bond with your family. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and spend a night underneath the stars at Pigeon River Campground. Pigeon River Campground is a short drive away from Pigeon Forge and right down the road from Smoky Mountain Outdoors, so it's a great place to stay after your rafting adventure! Pigeon River Campground stands apart from other campgrounds because it also has RV sites and camping cabins, along with a variety of amenities, such as a swimming pool, outdoor activities like volleyball and cornhole, a general store and a laundry room! Spend quality time with your family at Pigeon River Campground during your Smoky Mountain vacation.

4. Stay in a Pigeon Forge Cabin

If you don't feel like camping, we recommend staying in a Pigeon Forge cabin! Pigeon Forge cabins are the perfect home away from home. You'll have all the comforts of home with all the benefits of being on a Smoky Mountain vacation, all for a good price. There is a wide selection of cabins available, ranging from small 1-bedroom cabins to large group cabins, so your family will have no problem finding a rental that accommodates everyone. Hearthside Cabin Rentals offers gorgeous, affordable cabins with mountain views, theater rooms, game rooms, pool access and more!
