In case you haven’t heard, one of our homegrown attractions has received quite an honor this week. Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge received the 2010 Applause Award during a ceremony at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Expo in Orlando on November 16. The Applause Award, which is considered the most prestigious award in the industry, is given to the park whose management, operations and creative accomplishments have “inspired the industry with its foresight, originality and sound business development,” according to the official criteria.
Dollywood competed with Alton Towers in the UK and Phantasialand in Germany for the honor, which in previous years has gone to theme-park powerhouses like Epcot, Disneyland, Europa-Park, and Silver Dollar City,
Dollywood owner and namesake Dolly Parton accepted the award for the park, noting. “We are so honored to win this award. Our success over the last 25 years is because of the great team at Dollywood that I lovingly call my other family! All those folks back home cooking, cleaning, entertaining and landscaping–I am proud of every one of them,” Parton said.
Dollywood is just one of many great reasons to head to the Smokies this fall and winter, and when you do, check out our wide selection of cabins in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. We have something to accommodate everything from the honeymooning couple to the massive family reunion!
