Gatlinburg’s Mountains—More Than Just Winter Fun

I’m sure that when you think of the Ski Mountain area of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, your first thoughts are probably of wintertime snow skiing, snowboarding and ice skating at the Ober Gatlinburg resort. But even in the heat of summer, there’s still plenty of fun up in them thar hills.

Ober Gatlinburg offers a wide array of summertime fun, including a scenic mountainside chairlift, water slides, an alpine slide, go-carts, a black bear habitat and much more. And yes, the ice skating rink is still open in summer for those looking to beat the summer heat. Shopping and dining options abound up there as well.

Don’t forget that getting to Ober Gatlinburg (which sits atop Mt. Harrison) is half the fun of the experience. The Aerial Tramway departs from downtown Gatlinburg and shuttles guests to the top of the mountain regularly throughout the day. Or if you wish, you can drive to the resort itself and park on the mountain.

Of course, Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers endless warm-weather recreational opportunities, including hiking, camping, fishing, cycling, horseback riding and more.

While you’re staying in Gatlinburg—and in the Ski Mountain/Chalet Village area specifically—you’ll find that our wide selection of Gatlinburg chalets will fit the bill just as nicely in summer as they do in winter.
